About Illumi Vase
The Thinking Behind Illumi Vase
Illumi Vase began with a simple idea: lighting can do more than illuminate a space. It can shape it.
Most lighting is designed to disappear into ceilings, walls, or fixtures. Illumi Vase was created to do the opposite — to become part of the space itself. A physical object that contributes to atmosphere, structure, and visual balance, both during the day and after dark.
Each vase combines sculptural form with integrated lighting, creating an object that works as both design feature and functional light source. The goal was never to create a decorative accessory, but something more deliberate — a lighting feature that could sit comfortably in environments where presentation and detail matter.
The result is a collection of illuminated fibreglass vases designed for residential, commercial, marine, and event environments where lighting is expected to contribute visually as well as practically.
A Background Built Around Design
Illumi Vase was created by Raymond, whose career has always revolved around craftsmanship, visual presentation, and attention to detail.
Early in his working life, Raymond was involved in cabinet making and furniture work, developing an appreciation for form, proportion, and materials. This hands-on approach to design carried into his next career in signwriting, where he spent more than twenty-seven years refining his eye for balance, layout, and visual impact.
Signwriting demands precision. Every line, colour choice, and placement decision affects how something is seen. That discipline helped shape Raymond’s approach to design — creating objects that look intentional rather than accidental.
Later, Raymond moved into the events industry, operating a mobile catering business that travelled to festivals, sporting events, and large public gatherings. Working in that environment reinforced the importance of presentation. Whether it was food, signage, or staging, people respond to things that are visually appealing and thoughtfully arranged.
These experiences built a foundation in both creativity and practical problem-solving — a combination that would eventually influence the creation of Illumi Vase.
The Idea That Started It
The concept for Illumi Vase emerged during the COVID period, when the events industry came to an abrupt halt. With time to rethink direction, Raymond returned to the creative side of design and began experimenting with illuminated objects.
What stood out was a gap in the market. There were plenty of lighting fixtures and plenty of decorative vases, but very few products that combined the two in a way that felt purposeful and durable enough for real environments.
The idea developed into a collection of illuminated vases constructed from fibreglass and fitted with integrated RGBW LED lighting. These pieces could function as sculptural objects during the day and atmospheric lighting features at night.
Rather than designing something delicate or ornamental, the goal was to create objects that could be used confidently in a range of settings — outdoor entertaining areas, waterfront environments, commercial spaces, and event installations.
Designed to Be Used, Not Just Displayed
Every Illumi Vase is built with practical use in mind.
The fibreglass construction keeps the vases lightweight enough to move and position easily while remaining strong enough for outdoor environments. Automotive paint finishes provide durability and depth of colour, while integrated RGBW LED lighting allows the illumination to be adjusted depending on the setting.
This combination allows the vases to be used in places where conventional lighting may not be practical — along pathways, around pools, near entry points, or within event spaces where temporary installations are required.
Optional features such as floral inserts and illuminated branding add flexibility, allowing the same vase to function as a lighting feature, design object, or display element.
Built Around a Simple Philosophy
The philosophy behind Illumi Vase is straightforward: design objects that feel intentional.
A well-designed object doesn’t need to compete with its surroundings. It should sit comfortably within a space, contributing to the overall atmosphere without overwhelming it.
Illumi Vase is built on that idea — creating lighting objects that enhance an environment rather than distract from it.
Ready to Illuminate Your Space?
llumi Vase continues to evolve as new environments and applications are explored. From residential outdoor spaces to marine settings and event installations, the aim remains the same: to create objects that bring light, form, and presence together in a way that feels natural.
For those interested in incorporating Illumi Vase into a project or setting, the next step is simply to get in touch and discuss the intended environment and application.
